Super Napier (Pakchong 1) is a Hybrid Napier Grass obtained by crossing ordinary napier (pennisetum purpureum) and Pearl Millet ( Pennisetum glaucam) developed in Thailand, by Dr Krailas Kiyothong-animal nutritionist and plant breeder from Department of Livestock development.
 
Has the below key qualities
1.       Pakchong 1 Super Napier is the only variety in Kenya giving highest crude protein (16 -18%). Our lab tests in February 2021 showed 17.2 % of crude protein.
2.        Pakchong1 Super Napier can give yield of 200 Tons per acre per year which makes it as " King of Napiers"
3.      200 Tons per acre per year means a dairy farmer can easily rear 15 cows in one acre of land.
4.      Farmers can save huge money because of high protein content (16 - 18 )
5.    Highly suitable for silage with no need to add any additives while making silage due to its water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC)18
6.   The leaves are smooth and hairless and is propagated via cuttings
7.   It could be ratooned-. Once established in the field, it grows after each cutting.
8.   The first cut is taken from 75 to 90 days after planting and subsequent cuts are taken after intervals of 45 to 60 days.
9.   Pakchong 1 produces 7 to 8 cuttings per year and 50 to 60 tons per cutting depending on soil conditions.

Super Napier (Pakchong 1) ni Nyasi Mseto ya Napier iliyopatikana kwa kuvuka napier ya kawaida (pennisetum purpureum) na Pearl Millet ( Pennisetum glaucam) iliyotengenezwa nchini Thailand, na Dk Krailas Kiyothong-mtaalamu wa lishe ya wanyama na mfugaji wa mimea kutoka Idara ya Maendeleo ya Mifugo.
 
Inayo sifa kuu hapa chini
1. Pakchong 1 Super Napier ndiyo aina pekee nchini Kenya inayotoa protini ghafi nyingi zaidi (16 -18%). Uchunguzi wetu wa maabara mnamo Februari 2021 ulionyesha 17.2% ya protini ghafi.
2. Pakchong1 Super Napier inaweza kutoa mavuno ya Tani 200 kwa ekari kwa mwaka ambayo inafanya kuwa "Mfalme wa Napiers"
3. Tani 200 kwa ekari kwa mwaka inamaanisha mfugaji wa maziwa anaweza kufuga ng'ombe 15 kwa urahisi katika ekari moja ya ardhi.
4. Wakulima wanaweza kuokoa pesa nyingi kwa sababu ya maudhui ya juu ya protini (16 - 18)
5. Inafaa sana kwa silaji na hakuna haja ya kuongeza viungio wakati wa kutengeneza silaji kutokana na wanga katika maji mumunyifu (WSC)18
6. Majani ni laini na hayana nywele na huenezwa kupitia vipandikizi
7. Inaweza kubadilishwa-. Mara baada ya kuanzishwa shambani, hukua baada ya kila kukatwa.
8. Kata ya kwanza inachukuliwa kutoka siku 75 hadi 90 baada ya kupanda na kupunguzwa kwa baadae kunachukuliwa baada ya muda wa siku 45 hadi 60.
